Coatl (Snake) -A new skin- is a mexican trademark of t-shirts colorized with a pigment extracted from an parasite that feeds on nopales called "Grana Cochinilla". This insect, when procesed, creates a deep red pigment, very similar in hue to blood. This is the reason why in the past it was delivered to emperors as tribute in form of coloured fabric or dust. Only they had the hierarchy to wear the colour of blood wich was the most valuable offer to the ancient gods.
"A new flesh" was the slogan of the t-shirts as the teotihuacanos believed that every amount of time we change skin like a snake in a spiritual way to be better as humans. The natural locations and the model without shirt reinforces the idea of freedom, going back to nature and the t-shirt acting as a "new skin". All the photographs are property of Miguel Ruiz. Photographer extraordinaire.
And lastly the product was designed with the colour red as the main character and precolombine elements, always keeping in mind the present.
Thanx for watching.
